South African Golden Smoky Quartz Necklace

This is a natural, Eye Clear 2.9 carat artisan faceted South African Smokey Quartz with 18" Sterling Silver delicate double rope chain. This is a special necklace with a quality gemstone in a beautiful sterling setting.

Smoky quartz is found in many countries and ranges from gray, browns to black. It is translucent ranging from complete transparency to almost opaque. The most valuable is eye clear and in the brownish/ orangish in color. This stone is exactly both of those distinctives. The faceting was well done and shows off the sparkle of rays of golden colors. The setting has an open back to allow for additional light play. The stone, setting and workmanship will not disappoint.

Smoky Quartz is one of the June birthstones. It is a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.

In antiquity smoky quartz has been found in Iran from 3250 BC and been revered ever since. The Druids used it, it was attached to crosses in Europe, the Scottish made knife handles out of it, Queen Victoria had a collection in Balmoral, the Chinese made a type of sunglasses from Smoky Quartz, and of course it's been used in jewelry for many centuries. It is a spectacular stone with a rich history.
