This very unusual pendant is petite, with a beautiful clear citrine stone with a single inclusion. It is a very high grade citrine fashioned into a round shape that gets a bit wider at the end and has an angled cut at the bottom. It is then set in sterling silver, with a sterling tube coming to a point at the top that has a sterling circle above that and a beautiful shiny sterling bale. The bale is capable of accommodating several chain thicknesses. A sterling chain can be added to the purchase of the pendant.
This citrine comes from The Gambia, Africa.
Citrine has been an adornment since ancient times. In Ancient Greece it was used between 300 and 150 BC and in Egypt during the time of the Pharaohs. The Scots used it on their swords as decoration but there is also evidence of entire sword handles made from citrine.
Citrine is a member of the quartz family and is very hard. It is 7 on the Mohs hardness scale.
Citrine is one of the November birthstone gems. It is the 13th wedding anniversary gemstone.
The lapidary and sterling work was done in our Colorado shop by Travel Ore Designs Shop Artist Mark Nelson. Additional pieces can be special ordered to complete a matching set.
