This beautiful artisan made necklace is solid Sterling Silver with a faceted 2.25 carat Ethiopian Emerald. It has 57 facets and comes with a double rope sterling silver chain. The pendant is 1 3/4 inch in length. It is truly one-of-a-kind and will complement many many outfits.
The way to tell if an emerald is authentically natural is the inclusions and they are forgiven more than any other gemstone. This stone has the earmark of natural with a few inclusions. This stone is a medium quality due to clarity. It is however, the highest value in color- beautiful saturated slight blue/ vivid grass green color.
Emeralds have been prized since ancient times and synonymous with the color green. Cleopatra had mines in Egypt that have since been depleted.
It's in the beryl family and considered one of the "Big Four" gemstones which are diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald. Columbia is famously able to command a high ticket price for their stunning quality, sometimes $100,000. per carat. Ethiopia is new to the emerald market as the discovery is relatively new, produced since 2016. Ethiopia produces a variety of quality stones, some of which has rivaled Columbia and Brazil.
Emerald is the May birthstone and the Anniversary gemstone for 20 years and 35 years.
