Brazil Jasper Necklace in Sterling
Brazil Jasper Necklace in Sterling
This beautiful narrow brick- red jasper necklace shines like jasper is famous for. It is complimented by it's handcrafted sterling setting and sterling silver double rope chain. The pendant is 2" long and 1/2" wide at the widest part.
This jasper comes from Belo Horizonte, Brazil and is a solid brick red without a design in the rock. It is a very nice quality stone and was cut and polished in our Travel Ore Designs Fort Collins, CO studio. The sterling silver setting was also handcrafted into a fine silversmith piece in our studio.
Jasper is found hidden all over the world and the American West. It is considered a semi-precious gemstone fashioned into jewelry because of its' value. It is a microcrystalline variety of Chalcedony, meaning it's crystals are too small to see with the naked eye so has a very solid texture and color. Jasper can be extremely colorful as this dark red piece proves.
In history, jasper has been used for carvings and jewelry. It is mentioned in ancient writings of the Hebrews, Greeks, Assyrians and Latins. In the Bible, in Exodus 28:20, it's identified as one of the gemstones in the high priest breastplate. It has been treasured since antiquity and for good reason.
